Why This Recipe Works
This is a historical medicinal preparation, not a food recipe. Potash (potassium carbonate) is a caustic alkaline compound, oil of vitriol is concentrated sulfuric acid, and alum is a mineral salt - all chemicals historically used for removing corns and calluses through chemical cauterization. This formula should NOT be prepared or used, as it contains dangerous corrosive substances that can cause severe chemical burns and tissue damage.
