A wholesome breakfast or dessert featuring cored apples filled with cooked oatmeal and baked until tender. This is an excellent way to encourage children to eat oatmeal. Leftover oatmeal porridge of any kind may be used instead of freshly cooked. Serve warm with milk for breakfast, or cold for lunch or supper.
Step 1: Mix salt with boiling water, add oats and cook for 5 minutes.
Step 2: Wash and core the apples and place them in a greased baking dish.
Step 3: Fill the cavities with the cooked oatmeal and with the remainder fill in the spaces between the apples.
Step 4: Sprinkle the sugar over the top, cover and bake in a moderate oven—350 degrees—for 35 minutes.
